Rudolf Kotnik had already been a prominent artist in the early 1960s, thanks to his works of great artistic value which were created as a result of exploring new possibilities and combining elements of painting and sculpture. His relief images, were an original breath of fresh air for Slovenian art. The sincerity and honesty of Kotnik’s art were acknowledged also by critics from other republics of the former Yugoslavia.
