Zmago Jeraj, a painter and photographer, was an artist with a unique expression, whose path was an independent, continuous quest ever since he had first established himself as the most radical Slovenian representative of the new figurative art. In the five years prior to receiving this award, Jeraj’s original drawing and saturated gouache, rich in symbolic meanings, brought to the Slovenian fine arts sphere innovation which draws on local reality. The artistic manifesto imbued with an authentic personal experience and originality of the auteur placed Zmago Jeraj at the very forefront of Slovenian art.
