Frančišek Smerdu

(1908-1964)

Frančišek Smerdu was born in Postojna. He studied sculpture at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts under Professors Robert Frangeš-Mihanović and Franjo Kršinić. He graduated in 1932. He attended a specialization in sculpture under Professor Ivan Meštrović.
He won the Prešeren Award in 1949 for his statue of France Prešeren.
